Philadelphia Phillies Announce World Series Roster
The Phillies announced their World Series roster on Friday morning, just eight hours prior to
the first start of Game 1 . World Series against the Astros at Minute Maid Park.
The Phillies introduced two roster changes during their participation in
the National League Championship Series. Infielder/outfielder Nick Maton replaced
outfielder Dalton Guthrie. Maton plays left-handed, which means it allows
the Phils some flexibility in the bench in the face of an Astros pitching staff
that has only one left-handed player within the bullpen. Will Smith.
Right-hander Nick Nelson replaced left-hander Bailey Falter in the second shift.
The Astros were ranked third on the Majors this season ,
with an .783 OPS against left-handed pitching.
They were ranked ninth in the league with an .726 OPS against right-handed pitchers.
Falter permitted four runs and three hits in two-thirds of an innings during
his Game 4 starting position in Game 4 of the NLCS against San Diego.
